Manx Spirit is a unique alcoholic beverage produced on the Isle of Man. Unlike traditional whisky, which is distilled from a mash of fermented grain, Manx Spirit is created by redistilling Scotch whisky. This process involves taking matured Scotch whisky and subjecting it to a second distillation, which is said to enhance its smoothness and flavor profile.
Production Process[edit | edit source]
The production of Manx Spirit begins with the importation of high-quality Scotch whisky. This whisky is then redistilled in copper pot stills at the Kella Distillers facility. The redistillation process is carefully controlled to ensure that the final product retains the character of the original whisky while developing its own unique qualities. The spirit is then diluted to a bottling strength of 40% alcohol by volume (ABV).
Legal Status[edit | edit source]
Manx Spirit is not classified as whisky under European Union regulations, which require whisky to be distilled from a mash of cereals. However, it is legally sold as a spirit drink. The unique production method of Manx Spirit has sparked discussions about the definitions and classifications of whisky and spirit drinks within the industry.
Tasting Notes[edit | edit source]
Manx Spirit is known for its smooth and mellow flavor, with notes of vanilla, oak, and a hint of peat. The redistillation process is believed to remove some of the harsher elements found in traditional whiskies, resulting in a cleaner finish.
