Marion is a city in Marion County, South Carolina, United States. It is the county seat of Marion County. The city was named after Francis Marion, a Brigadier General from South Carolina in the American Revolutionary War who was known as the "Swamp Fox".

Marion was founded in 1795 and has a rich history tied to the early development of South Carolina. The city was named in honor of General Francis Marion, a hero of the American Revolutionary War. Marion has several historic buildings and sites, including the Marion County Courthouse and the Marion Historic District.

. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.3 square miles (11.1 km²), all land. The city is situated in the northeastern part of South Carolina, approximately 22 miles east of Florence.

As of the 2020 census, Marion had a population of 6,466. The population density was 1,504.2 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was predominantly African American and White, with a small percentage of other races.
