Marion is a city in Marion County, South Carolina, United States. It is the county seat of Marion County. The city was named after Francis Marion, a Brigadier General from South Carolina in the American Revolutionary War who was known as the "Swamp Fox".

Marion was founded in 1795 and has a rich history tied to the early development of South Carolina. The city was named in honor of General Francis Marion, a hero of the American Revolutionary War.
