Mark Everson
Mark Everson is an American public servant and former Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). He served as the 46th Commissioner of the IRS from 2003 to 2007. Everson has also held various positions in the private sector and other government roles.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Mark Everson was born on September 10, 1954, in New York City. He attended New Canaan High School in New Canaan, Connecticut. Everson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Yale University in 1976. He later received a Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Early Career[edit | edit source]
Before joining the IRS, Everson held several positions in both the public and private sectors. He worked for the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) during the Reagan Administration, where he was involved in federal budget and management issues. Everson also served as a vice president at SC International Services, a global consulting firm.
Internal Revenue Service[edit | edit source]
Mark Everson was appointed Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service by President George W. Bush in 2003. During his tenure, he focused on improving tax compliance and enforcement. Everson emphasized the importance of addressing tax evasion and increasing the efficiency of IRS operations. He also worked on modernizing the agency's technology and improving customer service.
Post-IRS Career[edit | edit source]
After leaving the IRS in 2007, Everson became the President and CEO of the American Red Cross. His tenure at the Red Cross was short-lived, as he resigned in 2007 following the revelation of a personal relationship with a subordinate.
Everson later ran for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in the 2016 United States presidential election, but his campaign did not gain significant traction.

Mark Everson is married and has three children. He is known for his commitment to public service and his efforts to improve government efficiency and accountability.
