Mark Rosekind
Mark Rosekind is an American scientist and public servant known for his work in traffic safety and sleep research. He has held prominent positions in various governmental and private organizations, contributing significantly to the fields of transportation safety and fatigue management.

Mark Rosekind was born in San Francisco, California. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Stanford University. He then went on to receive his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Yale University. Rosekind completed his internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the Brown University Medical School.

Rosekind began his career at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), where he served as the Chief of the Aviation Operations Branch in the Fatigue Countermeasures Program at the Ames Research Center. His work at NASA focused on developing strategies to manage pilot fatigue and improve aviation safety.
National Transportation Safety Board[edit | edit source]
In 2010, Rosekind was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as a member of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). During his tenure at the NTSB, he was involved in numerous investigations and advocated for policies to enhance transportation safety across various modes of transport, including aviation, rail, and highway.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration[edit | edit source]
In 2014, Rosekind was nominated by President Obama to be the Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). He was confirmed by the United States Senate and served in this role until 2017. At NHTSA, Rosekind focused on advancing vehicle safety technologies, including autonomous vehicles and vehicle-to-vehicle communication systems. He also emphasized the importance of addressing driver fatigue and distracted driving.

After leaving NHTSA, Rosekind joined Zoox, an autonomous vehicle company, as the Chief Safety Innovation Officer. In this role, he continues to work on developing and implementing safety protocols for autonomous vehicles.
