Marshmallow fluff
Marshmallow Fluff is a type of sweet spread that is made from sugar, water, egg whites, and vanilla flavoring. It is a popular ingredient in many dessert recipes and is often used as a filling for sandwiches and other sweet treats.
History[edit | edit source]
Marshmallow Fluff was first invented in the early 20th century by Archibald Query, a confectioner from Massachusetts. Query initially sold his product door-to-door, but it was not until he partnered with H. Allen Durkee and Fred L. Mower that the product became widely available. The trio formed the Durkee-Mower company, which continues to produce Marshmallow Fluff to this day.
Production[edit | edit source]
The production of Marshmallow Fluff involves the combination of the four main ingredients in a specific order. First, the sugar and water are heated together to create a syrup. The egg whites are then beaten until they form stiff peaks, and the syrup is slowly added to the egg whites while continuing to beat them. Finally, the vanilla flavoring is added to the mixture. The resulting product is a light, fluffy spread with a sweet, marshmallow flavor.
Uses[edit | edit source]
Marshmallow Fluff is a versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of ways. It is often used as a filling for sandwiches, particularly in the creation of the Fluffernutter, a sandwich made with Marshmallow Fluff and peanut butter. It can also be used as a topping for ice cream, a filling for cupcakes, or an ingredient in fudge and other sweet treats.
Health and Nutrition[edit | edit source]
Like many sweet spreads, Marshmallow Fluff is high in sugar and should be consumed in moderation. It is also not a significant source of protein, fiber, or vitamins and minerals. However, it is low in fat and cholesterol, making it a potentially healthier alternative to some other dessert ingredients.
