Mary Ruwart
Mary J. Ruwart (born October 16, 1949) is a libertarian speaker, author, and activist. She was a leading candidate for the 2008 Libertarian Party presidential nomination and is the author of the international bestseller Healing Our World.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Ruwart was born in Detroit, Michigan. She holds a B.S. in biochemistry and a Ph.D. in Biophysics from Michigan State University.
Career[edit | edit source]
Ruwart worked as a pharmaceutical research scientist for Upjohn Pharmaceuticals for 19 years. She left Upjohn in 1995 to devote her time to consulting and writing.
Ruwart is best known for her international bestseller Healing Our World: The Compassion of Libertarianism, which argues that the Libertarian Party's approach to politics is the best way to heal our world. She has also written Short Answers to the Tough Questions, a guide for libertarians to answer questions about libertarianism.
In 2008, Ruwart declared her candidacy for the Libertarian Party's presidential nomination. She lost the nomination to Bob Barr.
Personal life[edit | edit source]
Ruwart is a member of the Association of Libertarian Feminists and the International Society for Individual Liberty.
