Mekoryuk

Mekoryuk is a city located in the Bethel Census Area of the U.S. state of Alaska. As of the 2010 Census, the population of the city was 191, down from 210 in 2000. Mekoryuk is the only permanent settlement on Nunivak Island, lying 30 miles off the coast of western Alaska.

. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.4 square miles, all of it land.

Climate[edit | edit source]

Mekoryuk has a subarctic climate with long, cold winters and short, cool summers. The average high temperature in January is -6°F, and the average high in July is 57°F. The lowest recorded temperature in Mekoryuk is -47°F, and the highest is 79°F.

Healthcare[edit | edit source]

Healthcare services in Mekoryuk are provided by the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation. The city has a clinic, the Nunivak Island Mekoryuk Health Clinic, which is staffed by community health practitioners. The clinic offers emergency care, family medicine, women's health, and dental services.

Education[edit | edit source]

The Lower Kuskokwim School District operates the Nuniwarmiut School in Mekoryuk. The school serves grades Pre-K through 12.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

Mekoryuk is served by the Mekoryuk Airport, which provides scheduled passenger service to Bethel.
