Formebolone

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

(Redirected from Metanor)

Formebolone is a synthetic anabolic steroid that was developed in the 1960s. It is a derivative of testosterone, which is the primary male sex hormone. Formebolone is used in the treatment of various medical conditions, including osteoporosis, muscle wasting diseases, and certain types of anemia.

Chemical Structure[edit | edit source]

Formebolone is a 17-alpha-alkylated anabolic steroid, which means it has been modified at the 17th carbon position to survive oral ingestion. This modification allows the drug to be absorbed into the bloodstream, where it can exert its effects. The chemical formula of formebolone is C20H28O3.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

Like other anabolic steroids, formebolone works by binding to and activating the androgen receptor. This leads to increased protein synthesis and muscle growth. In addition to its anabolic effects, formebolone also has androgenic effects, which can lead to the development of male secondary sexual characteristics.

Medical Uses[edit | edit source]

Formebolone is used in the treatment of conditions that cause muscle wasting, such as cancer and AIDS. It is also used to treat osteoporosis, a condition that causes bones to become weak and brittle. In addition, formebolone is used to treat certain types of anemia, a condition in which the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells.

Side Effects[edit | edit source]

Like all anabolic steroids, formebolone can have serious side effects. These can include liver damage, cardiovascular problems, and changes in mood and behavior. Long-term use of formebolone can also lead to dependence and withdrawal symptoms.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

In many countries, including the United States, formebolone is classified as a controlled substance. This means it is illegal to use or possess the drug without a prescription.
