Methylepitiostanol

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Methylepitiostanol is an anabolic steroid and prohormone that is marketed as a dietary supplement. It is a derivative of epitiostanol, which is a steroid that has been used to treat breast cancer. Methylepitiostanol is also known as Epistane, and it is used by bodybuilders for its muscle-building properties.

History[edit | edit source]

Methylepitiostanol was first described in the scientific literature in 1966. It was developed by the Japanese pharmaceutical company Shionogi. The company was looking for a drug that could be used to treat breast cancer, and they found that epiitiostanol had anti-estrogenic properties that made it effective for this purpose. Methylepitiostanol is a methylated version of epiitiostanol, which makes it more bioavailable.

Uses[edit | edit source]

Methylepitiostanol is used by bodybuilders and other athletes for its muscle-building properties. It is marketed as a dietary supplement, but it is actually a prohormone. This means that it is converted into an active steroid in the body. The steroid that methylepitiostanol is converted into is desoxymethyltestosterone, which is a potent anabolic steroid.

Side Effects[edit | edit source]

Like all anabolic steroids, methylepitiostanol can have serious side effects. These can include liver damage, cardiovascular problems, and changes in mood and behavior. It can also cause a decrease in the body's natural production of testosterone, which can lead to a condition known as hypogonadism.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

In many countries, including the United States, methylepitiostanol is classified as a controlled substance. This means that it is illegal to sell or possess without a prescription. Despite this, it is still widely available on the internet and in some health food stores.
