From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Mibolerone

Mibolerone is a potent anabolic steroid that is used in veterinary medicine to maintain estrus in female dogs. It is also known by its brand name, Cheque Drops, and is not approved for use in humans.

History[edit | edit source]

Mibolerone was first described in the scientific literature in 1963. It was developed by the pharmaceutical company Upjohn, and was marketed under the brand name Cheque Drops for use in dogs. Despite its veterinary use, it has been used by bodybuilders and athletes for its anabolic effects.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

Mibolerone is a synthetic androgen and anabolic steroid (AAS). It is a derivative of nandrolone, which is itself a derivative of testosterone. Mibolerone has a high affinity for the androgen receptor, and is one of the most potent AAS in existence. It has an anabolic to androgenic ratio of 30:1, meaning it is 30 times more anabolic than testosterone.

Use in Veterinary Medicine[edit | edit source]

In veterinary medicine, mibolerone is used to suppress the heat cycle in female dogs. It is administered orally, and its effects can last for up to 24 hours. Despite its potency, it has a relatively short half-life, and must be administered daily for optimal results.

Side Effects[edit | edit source]

Due to its potency, mibolerone has a high potential for side effects. These can include aggression, liver damage, and in females, virilization. It is also highly toxic, and can cause severe liver damage if used in high doses or for extended periods of time.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

In many countries, including the United States, mibolerone is a controlled substance. It is classified as a Schedule III drug under the Controlled Substances Act, meaning it has a potential for abuse and dependence, and its use is restricted to veterinary medicine.
