Michael Bonacini is a renowned British-Canadian chef and restaurateur. He is best known for his role as a judge on the television show MasterChef Canada, and for his partnership in the successful restaurant management company, Oliver & Bonacini Restaurants.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Michael Bonacini was born in Tenby, South Wales. He developed a passion for cooking at a young age, inspired by his Italian mother and Welsh father. He attended the Westminster Kingsway College in London, where he studied culinary arts.
Career[edit | edit source]
After graduating, Bonacini worked in several Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe, including the Le Gavroche in London, under the mentorship of renowned chefs Albert Roux and Michel Roux Jr.
In 1985, Bonacini moved to Canada and took the position of Executive Chef at the Windsor Arms Hotel in Toronto. In 1993, he partnered with Peter Oliver to establish Oliver & Bonacini Restaurants, a company that now owns and operates a series of successful restaurants across Canada.
In 2014, Bonacini became a judge on the television show MasterChef Canada, where he has been praised for his constructive criticism and deep knowledge of culinary arts.

Michael Bonacini is married and has one son. He is known for his philanthropic work, particularly his involvement with the Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation and the Daily Bread Food Bank.
Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]
Throughout his career, Bonacini has received numerous awards for his contributions to the culinary world. These include the Ontario Hostelry Institute's Gold Award in 2007 and the Canadian Culinary Federation's Chef of the Year award in 2010.
