Milk Tray[edit | edit source]

Milk Tray is a popular brand of boxed chocolates currently produced by Cadbury. Introduced by Cadbury UK in 1915, it is one of the longest running brands in the confectioner's portfolio. The name 'Milk Tray' is derived from the original packaging design that featured a tray of milk chocolate.

History[edit | edit source]

Milk Tray was first introduced in the UK in 1915. The chocolates were sold in a purple and white box that featured a tray of milk, hence the name 'Milk Tray'. The brand has since become a symbol of romance, largely due to its iconic 'Milk Tray Man' advertising campaign that ran from 1968 to 2000.

Product Range[edit | edit source]

The Milk Tray assortment has changed over the years, but the box traditionally includes a selection of milk, dark and white chocolates with a variety of centres. Some of the most popular chocolates in the Milk Tray assortment include the Caramel Softy, Hazelnut Swirl, and Strawberry Temptation.

Advertising[edit | edit source]

Milk Tray is perhaps best known for its 'Milk Tray Man' advertising campaign. The campaign featured a James Bond-like figure who would undertake dangerous missions to deliver a box of Milk Tray chocolates. The tagline for the campaign was 'And all because the lady loves Milk Tray'.

In Popular Culture[edit | edit source]

Milk Tray has been referenced in various forms of popular culture. The brand was famously parodied in a sketch by British comedy duo French and Saunders, and has also been featured in episodes of the British sitcom Only Fools and Horses.
