Mixture
Mixture is a term used in chemistry to describe a combination of two or more substances that are not chemically combined with each other. Mixtures can be of any proportion, and the components can be physically separated from each other.
Types of Mixtures[edit | edit source]
There are two main types of mixtures: homogeneous mixtures and heterogeneous mixtures.
Homogeneous Mixtures[edit | edit source]
A homogeneous mixture is a type of mixture in which the components are uniformly distributed throughout the mixture. Examples of homogeneous mixtures include air, salt water, and most alloys.
Heterogeneous Mixtures[edit | edit source]
A heterogeneous mixture is a type of mixture in which the components are not uniformly distributed and can be visibly distinguished. Examples of heterogeneous mixtures include sand and water, oil and water, and granite.
Separation of Mixtures[edit | edit source]
There are several methods for separating mixtures, depending on the type of mixture and the physical properties of the components. These methods include filtration, distillation, chromatography, and centrifugation.
