Mod (subculture)
Mod is a subculture that originated in London in the late 1950s and peaked in the early-to-mid 1960s. The term derives from "modernist," a term used to describe modern jazz musicians and fans. Mods are known for their distinctive fashion, music preferences, and lifestyle choices.

The Mod subculture began in London and quickly spread throughout the United Kingdom. It was characterized by its embrace of modern jazz, R&B, and soul music. The early Mods were working-class youth who sought to distinguish themselves from the older generation and other subcultures such as the Teddy Boys.
Fashion[edit | edit source]
Mod fashion is one of the most recognizable aspects of the subculture. It includes tailored suits, often made of Italian fabrics, and slim-fitting clothing. Mods are also known for their love of scooters, particularly Vespas and Lambrettas, which they often customized with mirrors and lights.

Mods were known for their all-night dance parties, often held in clubs and dance halls. They also frequented coffee bars and were known for their love of amphetamines, which helped them stay awake during their long nights out.
Revival[edit | edit source]
The Mod subculture experienced a revival in the late 1970s and early 1980s, partly due to the release of the film Quadrophenia, which was based on The Who's rock opera of the same name. This revival saw a new generation of youth adopting Mod fashion and music.
