Monatepil

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Monatepil is a vasodilator and antianginal medication that is used in the treatment of angina pectoris, a type of chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart. It is a calcium channel blocker that works by relaxing the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily to the heart.

Mechanism of Action[edit | edit source]

Monatepil, as a calcium channel blocker, works by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle. This inhibition results in the relaxation of these muscles, leading to vasodilation and a reduction in cardiac workload and oxygen consumption. This mechanism of action makes Monatepil effective in the treatment of angina pectoris.

Indications[edit | edit source]

Monatepil is indicated for the treatment of angina pectoris. It may also be used in the management of hypertension, although this is not a primary indication.

Side Effects[edit | edit source]

Like all medications, Monatepil can cause side effects. These may include dizziness, headache, flushing, or nausea. If these effects persist or worsen, patients are advised to contact their doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Contraindications[edit | edit source]

Monatepil is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe hypotension, cardiogenic shock, or certain types of heart rhythm disorders.

Interactions[edit | edit source]

Monatepil may interact with other medications, including other calcium channel blockers, beta blockers, and certain types of antiarrhythmic drugs. Patients should inform their healthcare provider of all medications they are currently taking.
