Mont Clare, Pennsylvania

Mont Clare is a village in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located on the Schuylkill River, which separates it from Phoenixville and Chester County.

History

Mont Clare was originally part of the William Penn land grant of 1681. The village name comes from the Clare family, who were early settlers in the area. The village grew around the Mont Clare Station, which was a stop on the Philadelphia and Reading Railway.

Geography

Mont Clare is located at the confluence of the Schuylkill River and the Perkiomen Creek. The village is part of the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area and is approximately 28 miles (45 km) northwest of Philadelphia.

Demographics

As of the 2010 United States Census, the population of Mont Clare was 1,647. The village is predominantly Caucasian, with a significant African American minority.

Education

Mont Clare is served by the Spring-Ford Area School District. The district operates eight elementary schools, two middle schools, and a high school.

Transportation

The main roads in Mont Clare are Pennsylvania Route 29 and Pennsylvania Route 113. The village is also served by the SEPTA Route 99 bus.
