Mucokinetics

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Mucokinetics refers to the movement of mucus within the respiratory tract. Mucus is a thick, slippery fluid that lines the airways and helps to trap inhaled particles, such as dust and bacteria. Mucokinetics involve the movement of mucus from the airways to the throat, where it can be expelled through coughing or swallowing. Mucokinetics can be impaired in certain medical conditions, such as cystic fibrosis, which can lead to the accumulation of mucus in the lungs and an increased risk of infection.
