Mutsuko Soma is a renowned Japanese chef, best known for her expertise in making soba noodles. She is the owner and chef of the popular restaurant Kamonegi in Seattle, Washington.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Mutsuko Soma was born and raised in Japan. She moved to the United States to study at the University of Washington, where she earned a degree in International Studies. After graduation, she returned to Japan to attend the Tsukiji Soba Academy, where she learned the art of making soba noodles.

Career[edit | edit source]

After completing her training at the Tsukiji Soba Academy, Soma returned to Seattle and worked at various restaurants before opening her own, Kamonegi. The restaurant quickly gained popularity for its handmade soba noodles and traditional Japanese dishes.

In 2018, Soma was named one of the Best New Chefs by Food & Wine Magazine. Her restaurant, Kamonegi, was also listed as one of the Best New Restaurants in America by Esquire Magazine in the same year.

Soma is married and has a daughter. She is known for her dedication to her craft and her commitment to using locally sourced ingredients in her dishes.

Recognition[edit | edit source]

In addition to the accolades received by her restaurant, Soma herself has been recognized for her contributions to the culinary world. She was a semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation's Best Chef: Northwest award in 2019.
