University of Washington (UW, U-Dub, or simply Washington) is a public research university in Seattle, Washington, United States. Founded in 1861, Washington is one of the oldest universities on the West Coast and has one of the best medical schools in the world.

The University of Washington was founded in 1861 as the Territorial University of Washington. It was the first university established on the West Coast and has grown into a large, comprehensive institution that offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs.

Campus[edit | edit source]

The University of Washington's main campus is located in the University District of Seattle. It is known for its beautiful setting, with views of the Cascade Range to the east and the Olympic Mountains to the west. The campus is home to several notable buildings, including the iconic Suzzallo Library and the modern Paul G. Allen Center for Computer Science & Engineering.

The University of Washington offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs. It is particularly well known for its programs in medicine, computer science, and environmental science. The university is also home to a highly regarded School of Law and College of Engineering.

The University of Washington's athletic teams, known as the Huskies, compete in the Pac-12 Conference. The Huskies have a strong tradition in football, rowing, and women's volleyball.

Many notable individuals have graduated from the University of Washington, including Bruce Lee, Bill Gates, and Bonnie Dunbar, a former NASA astronaut.
