NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) is an American auto racing sanctioning and operating company that is best known for stock car racing. The privately-owned company was founded by Bill France Sr. in 1948, and his son, Jim France, has been the CEO since August 6, 2018.

NASCAR was established on February 21, 1948, by Bill France Sr., with the help of several other drivers of the time. The points system was written on a bar room napkin. The original plans for NASCAR included three distinct divisions: Modified, Roadster, and Strictly Stock.

Series[edit | edit source]

NASCAR operates three national series: the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, as well as several regional series and one international series.

NASCAR Cup Series[edit | edit source]

The NASCAR Cup Series is the sport's highest level of professional competition. It is the most prestigious of the NASCAR organization.

NASCAR Xfinity Series[edit | edit source]

The NASCAR Xfinity Series is the second-highest level of professional competition in NASCAR.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series[edit | edit source]

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is a series of races, which is the only series in all of NASCAR to race modified production pickup trucks.
