National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) is a Malaysian company established to manage and operate the National Feedlot Centre, a government initiative aimed at boosting the production of beef to reduce the country's dependence on imported meat. The corporation was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

History[edit | edit source]

The National Feedlot Corporation was established as part of the Malaysian government's Economic Transformation Programme (ETP). The ETP aimed to transform Malaysia into a high-income economy by 2020. The NFC was tasked with developing a sustainable and commercially viable beef industry in Malaysia.

Objectives[edit | edit source]

The primary objectives of the National Feedlot Corporation include:

  • Increasing local beef production to meet domestic demand.
  • Reducing Malaysia's reliance on imported beef.
  • Developing a sustainable and efficient beef supply chain.
  • Providing training and support to local farmers and entrepreneurs in the beef industry.

Operations[edit | edit source]

The National Feedlot Centre, managed by the NFC, is located in Gemas, Negeri Sembilan. The centre is equipped with modern facilities for cattle breeding, feeding, and processing. The NFC imports cattle from countries such as Australia and New Zealand and raises them at the feedlot centre.

Controversies[edit | edit source]

The National Feedlot Corporation has been involved in several controversies, primarily related to allegations of mismanagement and misuse of government funds. In 2011, the Malaysian Auditor-General's report highlighted several issues with the NFC's operations, including underperformance and financial irregularities. These allegations led to investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and subsequent legal actions.
