- Negaunee, MI is a city located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, in the United States. It is part of Marquette County and is known for its rich history in iron mining. The city's name originates from an Anishinabe (Ojibwa) word "nigani", meaning "foremost", "in advance", "leading", which was determined to be the closest Indian term for "pioneer". The population of Negaunee is approximately 4,500.

- Negaunee was settled in 1845, following the discovery of iron ore in the region. The Jackson Mine, the first iron mine in the region, was located in Negaunee. The city was officially incorporated in 1865.
