Nekemias grossedentata

Nekemias grossedentata, commonly known as Moyeam, is a species of flowering plant in the family Vitaceae. It is native to China and is known for its use in traditional Chinese medicine and as a herbal tea.

Description[edit | edit source]

Nekemias grossedentata is a deciduous vine that can grow up to 10 meters in length. The leaves are compound, with 5-7 leaflets that are ovate to lanceolate in shape. The leaflets have serrated margins and are dark green on the upper surface and lighter green on the underside. The plant produces small, greenish-white flowers in clusters, which later develop into small, black berries.

Habitat[edit | edit source]

This species is typically found in forests, along riverbanks, and in mountainous regions at elevations ranging from 200 to 1,500 meters. It prefers well-drained soils and can tolerate a range of light conditions from full sun to partial shade.

Uses[edit | edit source]

Nekemias grossedentata is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. The leaves are harvested and dried to make a herbal tea known as Moyeam tea. This tea is believed to have various health benefits, including antioxidant properties, anti-inflammatory effects, and the ability to lower blood pressure.

Cultivation[edit | edit source]

The plant is relatively easy to cultivate and can be propagated from seeds or cuttings. It requires a support structure to climb, such as a trellis or fence. Regular pruning is recommended to maintain its shape and encourage healthy growth.

Related Species[edit | edit source]

Nekemias grossedentata is closely related to other species in the genus Nekemias, such as Nekemias arborea and Nekemias cantoniensis.
