Nettle rash

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Nettle Rash also known as Urticaria, is a type of skin rash notable for pale red, raised, itchy bumps. It is a common condition, with a wide range of causes and types.

Causes[edit | edit source]

Nettle rash can be triggered by a variety of factors, including allergens, infections, drugs, and stress. Some people may also experience nettle rash as a result of exposure to physical stimuli, such as heat, cold, or sunlight.

Symptoms[edit | edit source]

The primary symptom of nettle rash is the appearance of welts on the skin that are red, itchy, and often have a pale border. These welts can vary in size and can appear anywhere on the body. Other symptoms may include a burning or stinging sensation, swelling, and in severe cases, difficulty breathing.

Diagnosis[edit | edit source]

Diagnosis of nettle rash is typically based on the appearance of the skin. In some cases, a doctor may perform a skin prick test or blood test to identify the underlying cause.

Treatment[edit | edit source]

Treatment for nettle rash often involves avoiding the trigger, if known. Over-the-counter antihistamines can help to reduce symptoms. In severe cases, a doctor may prescribe stronger medications or recommend immunotherapy.
