New Rochelle is a city in Westchester County, New York, United States. It is located in the southeastern part of the state, on the Long Island Sound.

New Rochelle was founded by Huguenots in 1688, who were fleeing religious persecution in France. The city was named after La Rochelle, a city in France that was a center of Huguenot activity.

New Rochelle is situated on the Long Island Sound, providing it with a significant amount of waterfront. The city covers a total area of 34.3 square kilometers, of which 26.4 square kilometers is land and 7.9 square kilometers is water.
