The Northwestern Himalayan alpine shrub and meadows is an ecoregion located in the northwestern part of the Himalayas. This ecoregion is characterized by its unique alpine flora and fauna, which have adapted to the harsh climatic conditions of high altitudes.
Geography[edit | edit source]
The Northwestern Himalayan alpine shrub and meadows ecoregion spans across parts of India, Pakistan, and China. It is situated at elevations ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 meters above sea level. The region is bordered by the Western Himalayan broadleaf forests to the south and the Karakoram-West Tibetan Plateau alpine steppe to the north.

The climate of this ecoregion is characterized by cold temperatures and a short growing season. Winters are long and severe, with heavy snowfall, while summers are cool and brief. The region receives most of its precipitation in the form of snow during the winter months.
Flora[edit | edit source]
The vegetation in the Northwestern Himalayan alpine shrub and meadows consists primarily of alpine meadows and shrublands. Common plant species include rhododendrons, junipers, and various species of grasses and sedges. These plants are adapted to the cold, windy conditions and poor soils of the high-altitude environment.
