Notothenia microlepidota
Notothenia microlepidota is a species of fish in the family Nototheniidae, commonly known as the Small-scaled Crocodile Icefish. It is native to the Southern Ocean surrounding Antarctica, where it is found in cold, deep waters.

Notothenia microlepidota is a medium-sized fish, typically reaching lengths of 30-40 cm. It is characterized by its small scales, which give it its common name. The body coloration is typically a pale, silvery white, with darker markings on the dorsal surface.
Distribution and Habitat[edit | edit source]
Notothenia microlepidota is endemic to the Southern Ocean, where it is found in deep, cold waters. It is most commonly found at depths of 200-600 meters, although it has been recorded at depths of up to 1000 meters. The species prefers temperatures of -1.8 to 1.8 degrees Celsius.
Diet[edit | edit source]
The diet of Notothenia microlepidota primarily consists of krill, small crustaceans, and other zooplankton. It is also known to consume small fish and squid.
Reproduction[edit | edit source]
Little is known about the reproductive habits of Notothenia microlepidota. It is believed to be a broadcast spawner, releasing eggs and sperm into the water column where fertilization occurs.
Conservation Status[edit | edit source]
Notothenia microlepidota is not currently listed as threatened or endangered. However, like all species in the Southern Ocean, it may be impacted by climate change and overfishing.
