Nucleoporin 155

Nucleoporin 155 (NUP155) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the NUP155 gene. It is a component of the nuclear pore complex, a structure that regulates the transport of molecules between the nucleus and the cytoplasm in eukaryotic cells.

NUP155 is a part of the nuclear pore complex, which is composed of approximately 30 distinct protein subunits. The complex is located at the nuclear envelope and mediates the exchange of material between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. NUP155 is one of the key components of the nuclear pore complex and plays a crucial role in the assembly and maintenance of the complex.

Clinical significance[edit | edit source]

Mutations in the NUP155 gene have been associated with atrial fibrillation, a common heart rhythm disorder. Studies have shown that these mutations can disrupt the function of the nuclear pore complex, leading to abnormalities in heart cell function and the development of atrial fibrillation.
