Nursing research
Nursing research is a research that provides evidence used to support nursing practices. It is a part of evidence-based practice, which is a multi-step, dynamic process that involves the integration of best research evidence with clinical expertise, patient values and preferences, and the clinical circumstances present. Nursing research is similar to scientific research, which is based on empirical evidence and follows a specific research process.
History[edit | edit source]
The history of nursing research begins with Florence Nightingale. After the Crimean War, she used statistics to evaluate the care of patients, which led to the improvement of hospital conditions. In the 20th century, nursing research has become a staple of the nursing profession.
Types of Nursing Research[edit | edit source]
There are several types of nursing research, including quantitative research, qualitative research, and mixed methods research.
Quantitative Research[edit | edit source]
Quantitative research is a systematic process used for describing and quantifying phenomena. This type of research is often used to examine cause-and-effect relationships and involves the use of numerical data.
Qualitative Research[edit | edit source]
Qualitative research is a systematic process used for describing phenomena and interpreting the meaning of these descriptions. This type of research often involves the use of non-numerical data.
Mixed Methods Research[edit | edit source]
Mixed methods research is a systematic process that involves the integration of quantitative and qualitative methods in a single study.
Importance of Nursing Research[edit | edit source]
Nursing research is important because it contributes to the development of evidence-based nursing practice. It also helps to improve patient outcomes, shape health policy, and validate the effectiveness of nursing interventions.
