Odulimomab
Odulimomab is a monoclonal antibody designed for the treatment of cancer. It was developed by Immunotech, a subsidiary of Beckman Coulter. Odulimomab is also known by its trade name, Panorex.
History[edit]
Odulimomab was first developed in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It was one of the first monoclonal antibodies to be used in the treatment of cancer. The drug was initially developed to target the EpCAM antigen, which is overexpressed in many types of cancer.
Mechanism of Action[edit]
Odulimomab works by binding to the EpCAM antigen on the surface of cancer cells. This binding triggers an immune response that leads to the destruction of the cancer cells. The drug is typically used in combination with other cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
Clinical Trials[edit]
Several clinical trials have been conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of odulimomab in treating various types of cancer. These trials have shown mixed results, with some studies showing a significant improvement in survival rates and others showing no significant benefit.
Side Effects[edit]
Like all drugs, odulimomab can cause side effects. The most common side effects include nausea, vomiting, and fever. In rare cases, odulimomab can cause serious side effects, such as anaphylaxis and pulmonary edema.
Current Status[edit]
As of 2021, odulimomab is not currently approved for use in the United States. However, it is approved for use in some countries in Europe and Asia.
