- Old Mystic is located in the southeastern corner of Connecticut, near the border with Rhode Island. It is part of the town of Stonington, and is located near the Mystic River, which flows into Long Island Sound.

- The area that is now Old Mystic was originally inhabited by the Pequot tribe. European settlers arrived in the 17th century, and the village grew around a mill on the Mystic River. The village's historic district, which includes buildings dating back to the 18th century, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
