Orin C. Smith was a prominent American businessman, best known for his role as the President and CEO of Starbucks Corporation. He was born on September 5, 1942, in Chehalis, Washington, and passed away on March 1, 2018.

Orin C. Smith was born and raised in Chehalis, Washington. He attended the University of Washington, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He later received a Master's degree in Business Administration from Harvard Business School.

Smith began his career at Deloitte & Touche, where he worked as an accountant. He then moved on to work for Weyerhaeuser, a forestry products company, where he held various financial and strategic planning roles.

In 1990, Smith joined Starbucks as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). He was promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer in 1994, and then to CEO in 2000. During his tenure, Starbucks experienced significant growth, expanding from a regional chain to a global brand.

Smith was also known for his philanthropic efforts. He served on the boards of several non-profit organizations, including the YMCA and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
