Ornithology is the scientific study of birds. The word comes from the Greek words ornis meaning "bird" and logos meaning "study". Ornithology is a branch of zoology that concerns the study of birds.

The study of bird systematics and taxonomy involves the classification and naming of bird species.

Ornithology has a number of practical applications. It can help in the conservation of bird species, the control of pests, and the spread of diseases that birds can carry to humans.
