Pancit Molo

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Pancit Molo is a popular Filipino soup dish which originates from the Molo district in Iloilo City, in the province of Iloilo, Philippines. It is often referred to as Filipino wonton soup, due to its similarities with the Chinese dish.

History[edit | edit source]

The dish is believed to have been introduced by Chinese immigrants who settled in the Molo district. The name "Pancit Molo" is somewhat of a misnomer, as "pancit" typically refers to noodle dishes, and this dish does not contain any noodles.

Ingredients[edit | edit source]

Pancit Molo is made with a mixture of ground pork and shrimp, wrapped in molo or wonton wrappers. The dumplings are then cooked in a chicken broth, along with shredded chicken and garnished with green onions and fried garlic.

Preparation[edit | edit source]

The preparation of Pancit Molo involves several steps. The filling for the dumplings is made by combining ground pork, shrimp, and seasonings. This mixture is then wrapped in molo or wonton wrappers. The dumplings are then boiled in chicken broth until they are cooked through. Shredded chicken is added to the soup, and it is garnished with green onions and fried garlic before serving.

Cultural Significance[edit | edit source]

Pancit Molo is a staple in Filipino celebrations and special occasions. It is especially popular during the Christmas season and Chinese New Year celebrations in the Philippines. The dish is also a common offering in local eateries and restaurants in Iloilo City.

Variations[edit | edit source]

There are several variations of Pancit Molo. Some versions use different types of meat for the filling, such as chicken or beef. Others add additional ingredients to the soup, such as mushrooms or vegetables.
