Papua New Guinea (PNG) is a country located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. It occupies the eastern half of the island of New Guinea, with the western half forming part of Indonesia. It is surrounded by numerous smaller islands and atolls. Papua New Guinea is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world, with over 800 languages spoken.

Papua New Guinea is located north of Australia and east of Indonesia. It is characterized by its mountainous terrain, with the highest peak being Mount Wilhelm. The country also has extensive coastal plains and large areas of rainforest.
History[edit | edit source]
The history of Papua New Guinea can be traced back to the migration of people from Southeast Asia around 40,000 years ago. The first European contact was made by the Portuguese explorer Jorge de Menezes in 1526. The country was later colonized by Germany and Britain in the 19th century, and was administered by Australia in the 20th century until it gained independence in 1975.

Papua New Guinea's culture is incredibly diverse, with over 800 distinct ethnic groups. Traditional practices and rituals are still prevalent in many communities. The country is also known for its unique art forms, such as carving, weaving, and pottery.
Economy[edit | edit source]
The economy of Papua New Guinea is largely dependent on agriculture, with coffee, cocoa, and copra being the main exports. The country also has significant mineral resources, including gold, copper, and oil.
Politics[edit | edit source]
Papua New Guinea is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of government. The Monarch of the United Kingdom is the head of state, represented by a Governor-General. The Prime Minister is the head of government.
