Patuakhali Medical College

Patuakhali Medical College (PMC) is a government medical school located in Patuakhali, Bangladesh. It is affiliated with University of Dhaka and recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC). The college offers a five-year Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program followed by a one-year compulsory internship.

Patuakhali Medical College was established in 2014 as part of the government's initiative to expand medical education in Bangladesh. The college was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, as part of a broader effort to improve healthcare services in the southern region of the country.

The college is situated in the Patuakhali district, which is part of the Barisal division. The campus includes academic buildings, a library, laboratories, and a teaching hospital.   • Academic Programs
    1. MBBS Program

The MBBS program at Patuakhali Medical College is a five-year course divided into three phases:

1. Pre-clinical Phase: This phase covers the basic sciences, including Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry. 2. Para-clinical Phase: This phase includes subjects such as Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Forensic Medicine. 3. Clinical Phase: This phase involves clinical rotations in various departments such as Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Community Medicine.

    1. Internship

After completing the MBBS program, graduates must undergo a one-year internship. This internship is mandatory for obtaining a license to practice medicine in Bangladesh. During this period, interns rotate through different departments to gain practical experience.

  • Admission

Admission to Patuakhali Medical College is highly competitive. Prospective students must pass the national medical admission test conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Admission is based on merit, and candidates must meet the eligibility criteria set by the DGHS.
