Paul Beck Goddard
Paul Beck Goddard (1811–1866) was an American physician and pioneer in the field of medical photography. He is best known for his contributions to the early development of daguerreotype photography and his work in anatomy and surgery.

Paul Beck Goddard was born in 1811 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He pursued his medical education at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his M.D. degree in 1832. During his time at the university, Goddard developed a keen interest in anatomy and surgery, which would later influence his professional career.

Goddard is perhaps best known for his pioneering work in the field of medical photography. In 1839, he collaborated with Robert Cornelius, an American pioneer in photography, to improve the daguerreotype process. Goddard's significant contribution was the use of bromine fumes to sensitize the silver plates, which greatly reduced the exposure time required to produce a daguerreotype image. This advancement made the process more practical for use in medical and scientific documentation.
