Performance Freediving International
Performance Freediving International (PFI) is an organization that provides education, training, and certification for freediving or breath-hold diving. Founded in 2000, PFI is recognized as one of the leading institutions in the field of freediving.
History[edit | edit source]
Performance Freediving International was established in 2000 by Kirk Krack, a renowned freediving coach and advocate. The organization was created with the aim of promoting safety and education in the sport of freediving. Since its inception, PFI has been instrumental in setting numerous world records and has trained thousands of divers worldwide.
Training and Certification[edit | edit source]
PFI offers a range of courses for divers of all levels, from beginners to advanced freedivers. The courses are designed to equip divers with the necessary skills and knowledge to safely practice freediving. The curriculum includes training in breath-hold techniques, equalization, physiology of freediving, and emergency procedures.
Upon successful completion of a course, divers are awarded a PFI certification. This certification is recognized internationally and is often a prerequisite for participation in freediving competitions and events.
Safety Initiatives[edit | edit source]
Performance Freediving International is committed to promoting safety in freediving. The organization has developed comprehensive safety protocols and guidelines, which are incorporated into all its training programs. PFI also conducts research and collaborates with medical professionals to further enhance safety in the sport.
Notable Achievements[edit | edit source]
Over the years, PFI has been associated with numerous world records in freediving. Many of these records have been set by PFI-trained divers, including Mandy-Rae Cruickshank, Martin Stepanek, and William Trubridge. The organization has also been involved in several high-profile freediving expeditions and events.
