Peter Jozzeppi Burns (5 August 1959 – 23 October 2016) was an English singer, songwriter, and television personality. He was best known as the lead vocalist of the band Dead or Alive, which he founded in 1980. Burns was known for his distinctive voice, androgynous appearance, and flamboyant style.

Pete Burns was born in Port Sunlight, Wirral Peninsula, Cheshire, England. He was the son of Francis Burns, a Liverpudlian of Irish descent, and Eva Burns, a German woman who had fled the Nazi regime. Burns had a difficult childhood, often facing bullying due to his unique appearance and background.

Dead or Alive[edit | edit source]
In 1980, Burns formed the band Dead or Alive, which became known for its hit single "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" released in 1984. The song reached number one on the UK Singles Chart and became a global hit.
