Petrissage

From WikiMD's Wellnesspedia

Petrissage is a massage technique that involves kneading the muscles of the body to achieve deeper massage penetration. The pressure is typically applied with the hands, knuckles, or fingertips. This technique is often used to relieve muscle tension, improve blood circulation, and increase overall relaxation.

History[edit | edit source]

The term "petrissage" is derived from the French word pétrir, which means to knead. It is one of the five basic strokes of Swedish massage that was developed in the 1700s by Pehr Henrik Ling.

Technique[edit | edit source]

Petrissage involves kneading, lifting, pressing, and rolling the muscles to stimulate them. The technique is performed using both hands to lift and compress the muscles and then roll them to relieve tension. This can be done in a rhythmic and rapid manner, or slow and deep depending on the desired outcome.

Benefits[edit | edit source]

Petrissage massage can offer several benefits. It can help to improve blood circulation, which can aid in the removal of waste products within the muscles. It can also help to increase muscle flexibility, reduce muscle tension, and promote overall relaxation.
