Philip E. Stieg, PhD, MD

Philip E. Stieg is an American neurosurgeon and the Chairman and founder of the Weill Cornell Medicine Brain and Spine Center. He is a renowned expert in the field of neurosurgery and has made significant contributions to the treatment of brain tumors, cerebrovascular disease, and neurotrauma.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Philip Stieg was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He then attended the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he received his medical degree (M.D.). Following his medical education, Stieg pursued a Ph.D. in anatomy and cell biology at the same institution.

Stieg completed his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He then undertook a fellowship in cerebrovascular surgery at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

In 2000, Stieg was appointed as the Chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and the Neurosurgeon-in-Chief at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He founded the Weill Cornell Medicine Brain and Spine Center, which has become a leading institution for the treatment of neurological disorders.

Philip Stieg is known for his expertise in the surgical treatment of brain tumors, aneurysms, and arteriovenous malformations. He has also been involved in the development of advanced techniques in microsurgery and minimally invasive surgery.
