Primarily Obsessional OCD

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Primarily Obsessional OCD - Primarily Obsessional OCD, also known as Pure-O, is a type of OCD where the individual experiences recurrent, unwanted and often disturbing thoughts, images or impulses that they cannot control. These thoughts, images, or impulses are typically not acted upon, rather they are mentally neutralized through compulsions such as mental rituals, counting, or repeating words or phrases. This form of OCD is characterized by having fewer observable compulsions compared to other forms of OCD. It is treated with therapy, specifically cognitive-behavioral therapy and medication.
