Putylone
Putylone is a psychoactive drug that belongs to the cathinone class. It is a stimulant and entactogen that is often used recreationally. Putylone is also known as β-keto-ethylbenzodioxolylpentanamine (βk-EBDP) or n-ethylpentylone.
Chemistry[edit | edit source]
Putylone is a synthetic cathinone, which is a class of drugs derived from the khat plant. It is chemically similar to other synthetic cathinones such as methylone and pentylone, but it has a longer chain of carbon atoms on its amine group. This makes it more lipophilic and potentially more potent.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
Putylone acts as a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI), which means it increases the levels of these neurotransmitters in the brain by preventing their reuptake into neurons. This leads to increased stimulation and euphoria. However, the exact mechanism of action is not fully understood and more research is needed.
Effects[edit | edit source]
The effects of putylone can vary greatly depending on the dose, the individual's physiology, and the method of administration. Common effects include euphoria, increased energy, enhanced empathy and sociability, and heightened sensory perception. However, it can also cause negative effects such as anxiety, paranoia, and potentially dangerous increases in heart rate and blood pressure.
Legal Status[edit | edit source]
The legal status of putylone varies by country. In many countries, including the United States, it is classified as a Schedule I drug, which means it has a high potential for abuse and no accepted medical use. However, it is not controlled in all countries, and it is often sold online as a "research chemical."
Health Risks[edit | edit source]
Like other synthetic cathinones, putylone can be harmful or potentially fatal if misused. Risks include addiction, psychosis, heart problems, and overdose. It is strongly advised to avoid use of this substance.
