ROD-188
ROD-188 is a sedative and hypnotic drug that is used in scientific research. It has similar effects to barbiturate drugs, but is structurally distinct and so is classed as a nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic. ROD-188 increases the sensitivity of GABA receptors, but less so than most other nonbenzodiazepine sedatives, and with relatively little amnestic effects.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
ROD-188 acts as a GABA_A receptor positive allosteric modulator. This means it enhances the effect of the neurotransmitter GABA on the GABA_A receptor, leading to increased inhibitory effects in the brain. This results in sedative and hypnotic effects.
Uses[edit | edit source]
ROD-188 is primarily used in scientific research. It is often used in studies investigating the effects of sedatives and hypnotics on the brain and behavior. It is not used clinically due to its relatively weak effects compared to other sedatives and hypnotics.
Side Effects[edit | edit source]
As with other sedatives and hypnotics, ROD-188 can cause a range of side effects. These can include drowsiness, confusion, and impaired coordination. In high doses, it can cause unconsciousness and potentially be life-threatening.
