RTI-274

0RTI-274 is a psychoactive drug and research chemical that belongs to the phenyltropane class of stimulants. It is primarily used in scientific research and has not been approved for medical use. RTI-274 is structurally similar to cocaine, but with a longer duration of action and a higher potency.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

RTI-274 is a phenyltropane-based compound. Phenyltropanes are a family of drugs that have a tropane core structure, which is a bicyclic structure consisting of a six-membered ring fused to a five-membered nitrogen-containing ring. The phenyltropane structure is also found in naturally occurring alkaloids such as cocaine and atropine.

The chemical structure of RTI-274 includes a phenyl ring attached to the tropane ring, similar to cocaine. However, RTI-274 has additional modifications that increase its potency and duration of action compared to cocaine. These modifications include the addition of a chlorine atom on the phenyl ring and a methyl group on the nitrogen atom of the tropane ring.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

The pharmacology of RTI-274 is similar to that of other phenyltropane stimulants. It acts as a potent dopamine reuptake inhibitor, which means it blocks the reuptake of dopamine in the brain, leading to increased levels of dopamine in the synaptic cleft. This results in increased stimulation of dopamine receptors, which is associated with the drug's psychoactive effects.

In addition to its effects on dopamine, RTI-274 also has activity at other neurotransmitter systems. It is a weak norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor and has negligible activity at the serotonin transporter. This profile of activity is similar to that of cocaine, but with a greater selectivity for the dopamine transporter.

Research Use[edit | edit source]

As a research chemical, RTI-274 is used in scientific studies investigating the role of dopamine in the brain and the effects of dopamine reuptake inhibitors. It is also used as a reference compound in studies comparing the effects of different stimulant drugs.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

RTI-274 is not approved for medical use and is not controlled under the United Nations Convention on Psychotropic Substances. However, its possession and sale may be restricted in some countries due to its structural similarity to cocaine.
