RUOK?

RUOK? is a suicide prevention charity in Australia, which advocates people to ask others "Are you OK?" to indicate emotional support. It was founded by Gavin Larkin in 2009. The organization's mission is to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and support anyone struggling with life.

History[edit | edit source]

Gavin Larkin founded RUOK? in 2009, after experiencing the suicide of his father, Barry Larkin. Gavin himself was diagnosed with a terminal illness, which further motivated him to launch the campaign. The aim was to create a world where everyone is connected and protected from suicide.

Campaign[edit | edit source]

The RUOK? campaign promotes four steps to encourage people to communicate with those around them. These steps are:

  1. Ask R U OK?
  2. Listen
  3. Encourage action
  4. Check in

The campaign is designed to inspire people to have regular, meaningful conversations about life's ups and downs.

Impact[edit | edit source]

Since its inception, RUOK? has made a significant impact in the field of mental health and suicide prevention. It has increased awareness and understanding about the importance of mental health, and has encouraged people to seek help when needed.
