Raul Ruiz (politician)
Raul Ruiz (born August 25, 1972) is an American physician and politician serving as the U.S. Representative for California's 36th congressional district. A member of the Democratic Party, he was first elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2012.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Raul Ruiz was born in Zacatecas, Mexico, and raised in Coachella, California. He graduated from Coachella Valley High School and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Ruiz then attended Harvard Medical School, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree. He also holds a Master of Public Policy (M.P.P.) and a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) from Harvard University.
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
Before entering politics, Ruiz worked as an emergency physician at the Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, California. He was also involved in various public health initiatives and community service projects, focusing on improving healthcare access for underserved communities.

U.S. House of Representatives[edit | edit source]
Ruiz announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in California's 36th congressional district in 2011. He won the 2012 election, defeating incumbent Mary Bono Mack. Ruiz has been re-elected in subsequent elections.
