Raynard S. Kington is an American physician, educator, and administrator known for his contributions to public health and higher education. He has held several prominent positions in academia and government, including serving as the President of Grinnell College and as the Principal Deputy Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Raynard S. Kington was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Yale University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He then went on to earn his M.D. from the University of Michigan Medical School. Kington also holds an M.B.A. and a Ph.D. in Health Policy and Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Kington joined the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2000, where he served in various capacities. He was the Principal Deputy Director of the NIH, the second-highest position in the organization. In 2010, Kington became the 13th President of Grinnell College, a private liberal arts college in Grinnell, Iowa. Under his leadership, the college focused on increasing diversity, enhancing academic programs, and expanding community engagement. He served in this role until 2020.
