The Red Mountain AVA was established in 2001. The area has a reputation for producing powerful, tannic, and richly flavored wines.

The Red Mountain AVA is located on a southwest-facing slope in south-central Washington along the Yakima River. It is the smallest, warmest wine-grape growing region in Washington.
