Remdesivir
Remdesivir (development code GS-5734) is an antiviral drug, a novel nucleotide analog prodrug.

It was developed by Gilead Sciences originally as a treatment for Ebola virus disease and Marburg virus infections. It was subsequently also been found to show reasonable antiviral activity against more distantly related viruses such as respiratory syncytial virus, Junin virus, Lassa fever virus, and MERS-coronavirus.
Use in COVID-19[edit | edit source]
Current clinical management of COVID-19 consists of infection prevention and control measures and supportive care, including supplemental oxygen and mechanical ventilatory support when indicated. FDA has approved remdesivir (Veklury), for the treatment of COVID-19 in hospitalized patients aged 12 years and older who weigh at least 40 kg.
